Many inspiring garment makers wonder what a fashion designer do and what describes their glamorous career. Well for starters the job of a clothes creator is not very glamorous as it make look. The workload includes, but not limited to researching current trends, illustrating sketches and ideas, finding the right fabric and materials, launching fashion shows, marketing the collections, managing a design team, and overseeing the overall business tasks and accounting.
Starting a fashion career is not an easy task. Talent alone will not create success. An inventor of clothing have to be able to realistically manage their ideas, yet still keep their creative imagination.
Inspiration becomes a task at times in the hustle and bustle, so research is imperative when digging up new visions. Look around you and explore what is already stylish and acceptable among your target market. You have to derive your ideas from your consumer. Even though you are a creator you still must look at what are your cliental needs and fulfill them through you designs.
Runway shows are fun after they are over. The designer has to run everything behind the scenes, making sure all task run smoothly. The models have to be on cue and as a start up design you don’t have access to the top supermodels, so you have to settle for beginners. That can be hectic, due to them not knowing the ins and outs of walking the catwalk.
If you don’t have an advertising department like Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, or some of the other famous designers, then marketing your clothes will take some work and creativity. However it is very important to market your product. Without the ability for the consumers to know you exist it will be hard to be a successful fashion designer.
