Ethnicity of Paula Abdul

Question of the Day: What is the Ethnicity of Paula Abdul? You would never guess this one. Paula Abdul’s ethnic background is very mixed. Her mother, Lorraine Rykiss, is Jewish from Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. Her father, Harry Abdul, is a Syrian Jew born in Syria and raised in Brazil. She once referred to herself as Syrian-Brazilian-Canadian-American. Go figure.

While I am not an American Idol fan (I don’t watch TV), I like Paula Abdul. When I found out she was from a Middle East background and that she was Jewish, I was very happy. I am Jewish myself, and my family comes from a mixed background (Danish, and Ukranian). I am so glad she is not a shiksa gentile.

Her ethnicity is a person. Is there anything else that really matters?

Wow these comments are funny. It really doesn’t matter, but still interesting and something to be proud of.
@debbie It’s so funny to me how you say she is obviously not black, but I know black families that do not have an immediate white ancestor for at least 3 generations back and they make Paula Abdul look dark because they are sooo pale. I am black on one side and Latina/Cuban on the other and I know of many Latinas that make Paula look extremely pale… funny genetics, thank God for them and gotta love ‘em!
